ON June 30 we decided to go to a band concert in Southampton parks presented by a university band named The Grads.
A very good concert, I must say.
We were very surprised to see that the musicians had no seating in the bandstand (also none provided for people wishing to relax and enjoy the music).
On speaking to one of the musicians I was told that the council could not afford to pay an employee to deliver and collect the chairs afterwards; if the band wanted seats they would have to pay the council expenses.
The band incidentally gave their services free of charge. This, I think people would agree, is pennypinching of the highest degree. ‘A city of culture’? What a joke.
N F BULL, Southampton.
