AS A layman/person it does seem to me to be rather farcical for anyone to be championing the EU data roaming rules!
How many companies in Europe are there, which control those mobile networks?
Off the top of my head there is Vodafone; EE (Orange & T-Mobile); O2 (Telefonica) plus a few minority companies.
The cost to these conglomerates for recording the usage of mobile phones from countries where they also have a presence is miniscule because, it is a simplistic automated action which requires no input from a human plus, the cost in electrical terms is negligible.
They are obviously aware from the SIM card the name of the company who issued it and are also aware if it is one of their own companies.
Why is there a need to make any sort of surcharge for using a card anywhere, unless the mobile phone is on a different network and then the charge should surely be that, which prevails in the country in which it is being used, and not add an extortionate surcharge on the user?
