THE privatisation of the Post Office is surely yet another ploy by the Government to squeeze more cash from the public purse while at the same time casting away any further responsibility of its operation.

The recent 33 per cent rise in postage was, it would seem, a final clutch or grab for cash before selling it off.

So far there has not been one privatised former public utility that has benefited the general public, so all we can expect from here on as private companies scrabble for the most lucrative or profitable bits are further rises in the price of sending goods or greetings by post, to say nothing of the loss of jobs for many of those already in the business.

I for one will be fighting this latest move, keeping postage to the minimum, and using emails where possible.
