COUNCILLOR Bloom continues the propaganda that the change from the weekly collected 90-litre sack to a fortnightly collected 240- litre bin gives everyone a one third increase in the waste collected.
This is true for those people who only use one sack but a significant number of people use two (or more) sacks each week.
A weekly collection of two sacks when changed to a fortnightly collection of a 240-litre bin is a “one third reduction” of the waste collected, or does she expect us all to find space for TWO bins?
The council is also keeping quiet about the terms and conditions of service with the bins, e.g. T&C 10 – “During cold spells, garden waste may freeze and prevent us from fully emptying your container. It may not be possible to fully empty your container until the next scheduled collection day when temperatures have risen. During periods of extreme/adverse weather Eastleigh Borough Council reserves the right to suspend collections. No subscription money will be refunded. Notice of this will be posted on our website.”
It is not just cold spells which may result in problems with emptying a bin – a bin full of wet grass cuttings which has been there for ten days could be very difficult to empty.
What will the council do under these circumstances? Is it “only cold spells” where they do not guarantee to fully empty each bin on each scheduled collection day?
