Re; Mr R Newman’s letter concerning cold calling.
Two years ago, I contacted Southampton City Council about the cold calling and getting it stopped.
I was sent all the information, First job was to walk along my street, counting how many properties there were and which ones were flats. I then had to let the council know.
They sent me the 200 signature forms for residents to fill in.
Out of the 110 homes in my street, I had just ten replies.
Out of Chichester Road’s 20 homes, I had just six replies. Out of Brook Road’s 53 homes, I had a massive seven replies.
People have shown so much apathy. Strange, isn’t it, when one very elderly lady in our road, aged 95, managed to walk to my place to put her paper in my door.
I know this isnt what Mr R Newman meant, but to get no cold calling zones the above work has to take place.
It took me an absolute age, as I am disabled. And for me, it was an absolute waste of time and effort.
BERYL SAUNDERS, Southampton.
