YET again it would appear that Southampton's Council lacks Christmas cheer with the news that the city's tree would be positioned on Debenhams. While this is good news for the store that has gained a free tree for their festive decorations, it leaves what is in everyones eyes the city centre without a tree.
I fail to see why a tree cannot be placed in front of the Bargate, in fact this used to be it's usual position, contrary to the council spokesman's statement, and there is still adequate space.
Maybe the income derived from the markets or fairground rides in the city centre is the real reason space cannot be found?
