WELL, I''ve read some pretty daft things in the Letter pages of the Daily Echo from supporters of Southampton International Airport expansion, but your letter from Tim Goodridge on November 28 ranks among the daftest.

He states that we who live under the airports flight path, up here in on the hill in Bitterne Park and Midanbury and, close to the airport, Townhill Park, are creating too much of a fuss about aircraft noise and environmental pollution.

He tells us that he also lives under the flight path -- out on the plains of North Baddesley - and is not at all disturbed by the noise.

To suggest, as he does, that there is a direct comparison between noise that we suffer, living within a mile of the airport runway, and the noise of aircraft flying over people living the best part of five miles away (and therefore, logically, more than five times higher), is absolutely ludicrous.

I seriously suggest that Mr Goodridge takes time out to loiter anywhere in Bitterne Park, Midanbury, or down near the centre of Townhill Park housing estate, during holiday travel times.

Following which, I'd be willing to bet that he'll be able to avoid the temptation of trivialising others very real concerns, with statements that do no more than rank him high among several misinformed, selfish and gullible "expansion supporting'' contributors to your pages.

DON ROBERTSON, Southampton.
