“TRY voting UKIP and avoid responsibility for the state of the country” advises L A O’Bee (Letters, July 25), which to my mind nicely characterises his party’s attitude.

Were they ever to hold office (most unlikely), no doubt they would just as easily renege on their responsibility for creating the insignificant little offshore island that Britain would become by leaving the EU.

I doubt Mr O’Bee will ever come to terms with the fact that the days of empire are long gone, or realise that the only empire being built is by Mr Farage, for whom it will no doubt become a nice “little earner”

whether in or out of office.

If as he says his income is less than £15,000 a year, it is hardly likely to be improved by a leader who finds Tory policy not right wing enough.

However Mr O’Bee’s letter is a first, in that being from a UKIP member it doesn’t mention immigration, normally a matter of paranoia to his party. In a world that becomes ever more global each day, most major countries are finding it increasingly difficult to control immigration.

In fact we have a virtual global diaspora, that almost certainly will increase to the point where national boundaries mean very little, so perhaps we should come to terms with it.
