MR WEEKS' letter about the closure of Stocklands Nursing Home in Totton is wholly misconceived. He and Mr Sawyer appear to be arguing that Stocklands should remain open despite being declared unfit by the Commission for Social Care and Inspection.

Noone in a position of responsibility on Hampshire County Council wishes Stocklands residents to be cared for in sub-standard accommodation. All should agree on this, party politics should never come into it.

Mr Weeks has already been told by HCC's executivce member for adult Services he has upset local people with his intervention and lack of knowledge of the situation. HCC believe having had matters explained to him he agreed it is right to replace the unsatisfactory facilities at Stocklands with alternative arrangements of a higher standard.

Mr Weeks interference has only frightened vulnerable people whose future wellbeing is a priority for the county council and he should stop his campaign before more damage is done. Perhaps Mr Weeks could let people know what his party would do if they were in control of HCC.

MR A J SHEPHERD, Totton.
