A RECENT survey by BT shows just how important art is in people's lives.
The poll, conducted in conjunction with Tate Online, reveals that 53 per cent of people view art as being very important' in their lives, with only two per cent claiming not to be interested at all.
These latest survey results show just how relevant modern art is to increasing numbers of people. That's why our joint campaign with BT to make art more accessible via the Internet, plays such a crucial role in stimulating and developing people's relationship with art, whether they are able to visit the galleries or not.
As part of this campaign, and to celebrate this year's Christmas in style, Tate Online and BT have created a unique e-advent calendar, revealing different pieces of artwork as selected by leading contemporary artists such as Howard Hodgkin, Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor.
The e-advent calendar is available at www.tate.org.uk/adventcalendar which, via the innovative application of broadband technology, will allow users to intereact daily with the site by opening the windows in the 24 days leading up to Christmas.
Art should be for everybody, and I'm sure many ofy our readers feel the same way as I do. I'd urge them to log on and take a look for themselves.
