WHAT such sad news that Danny La Rue is to hang up his frocks (Daily Echo, December 4).
Those of us (I include myself) who can remember when entertainment was entertainment will acknowledge the contribution made by Danny to this country's entertainment history.
At a time when television relies on the cheap option - makeover, people and reality shows. The sort of entertainment provided by Danny is sadly missed.
Danny also helped raise money through his charitable work, something sadly missing from today's celebrities.
The city of Southampton should thank him for being its ambassador for many years. Why not thank him with the freedom of the city?
It's the least he deserves for his contribution to entertainment.
