REFERENCE the letter from CH Robinson of Southampton regarding the subject of recycling, I agree with everything which has been said. I recently wrote to Councillor Mel Kendal about this after reading the articles in the Daily Echo.

About a year ago, someone visited us from New Forest District Council, giving us pamphlets detailing all the items we are able to recycle. Plastic packaging with No 1, 2 and 3 within the recycle triangle was the only plastic allowed. Hampshire County Council, who receive all our recycling waste, do not have the facility for other plastics. Any plastic covering fruit and veg (No 5 and 6), waxed fruit juice cartons, plastic used by catalogue companies (No 4) cannot be put in our recycling bag.

It is high time packaging manufacturers standardised their products, so that they do not end up in the landfill sites.

Many of us are shredding personal documents and papers, but are unable to include this paper in the recycling bags, because the machines the council have will not recognise very small or shredded pieces!

We don't need an ultimatum of "recycle more in the next six months, or we will introduce wheelie bins''. The majority of people in the area are against them. I was horrified to hear that £2.5m was what it would cost to introduce them, and the money could be better spent in the area.
