MY wife works as a home carer for the council and, like her colleagues, performs a difficult job under sometimes trying circumstances.
However, she and about 300 other carers have been given 90 days' notice of termination of employment because they refuse to agree to wage cuts which in some cases amount to half their pay. They are being told that this deal is non-negotiable.
I then read that the council is proposing to spend £250,000 (will probably be more) on a ridiculous laser show, and also has more than £100m worth of art in storage.
Am I missing something here, or is there something wrong with our council's priorities? Money should be spent where its needed (not on light shows), and revenue should be raised from selling undisplayed art before cuts are made. I wonder if councillors' expenses or managers bonuses are being cut?
