A GROUP of us from Newcastle visited Southampton over the weekend of March 29 mainly for the football but also to spend some time in your city.
It is a lovely place and the people were nice and friendly, but our visit was ruined by the nightclub door staff who refused us entry into all six nightclubs, not because we were rowdy or drunk or causing trouble, but because we were GEORDIES – their words.
We spent time in the local pubs beforehand, making friends and chatting to the local people and there was no signs of any trouble.
At one nightclub in particular they let in a Polish, an American and a Spanish lady just in front of us. If this is not a case of discrimination I don’t know what is.
In Newcastle we welcome everyone to our lovely city, something your doorstaff could learn from.
MR CONNELLY, Gosforth, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
