SHOULD Southampton have a permanent ice rink? I should say so.
The fact that the temporary one in Southampton has been such a success - as well as the one in Winchester - should shout to the skies that there is an aching void for skaters and would-be skaters in this city.
Nearly every other major town along the south coast has one, along with a vibrant ice hockey team.
Why is Southampton City Council so disinterested in having one? We waste enough money on other ventures, why can't some be ploughed into this money spinner?
It is great exercise, and a great social pasttime to boot. I, basically a non-skater, would love the opportunity of taking up this form of exercise. I have probably spent more time on the temporary ice rink this winter, than at any other venue ever and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
I want an ice rink back in Southampton, and I know a lot of others do too.
