I READ Leslie O’Bee’s letter (April 7) with his obvious support for Nigel Farage, the Arthur Daley of politics.
UKIP’s claim that we pay £55m a day to be members of the EU is wrong – as are most of their statements – when in fact after rebates, etc, it costs us just a few pence per person, about half the price of your Daily Echo.
I do not deny Nigel Farage is a good performer and, like Arthur Daley, just dismisses any criticism. Both like a drink and a smoke, wear similar coats and hats, and have a minder. Nick Clegg’s hands were tied to being “polite” rather than allowed to actually attack UKIP.
Unlike Leslie, I believe Nick did no harm in promoting the Liberal Democrats and the importance of our EU membership. Southampton needs to export and import goods with Europe.
If we leave, does he and other UKIP supporters genuinely believe the rest of the EU will continue to work with us as partners? The answer is no they will not. Even less so if the UK loses Scotland.
My message to everyone in the UK is if you want us to stay in EU, you MUST vote on May 22, ideally for Liberal Democrats. Conservatives, as we all know, are a split party. Labour would give away our rights.
Finally, to those who like to make insults towards me I am not on Twitter or Facebook. Why don’t you write to the Daily Echo with your name and address, not hide behind chatlines.
Richard Grant, Burley.
