Do our planning chiefs have any regard for the welfare of local residents?
I’m absolutely amazed and disappointed at the number of major house-building planning applications which have been submitted for the Hamble peninsula.
This is not based on the last habitat of some wild newts, wild flowers or butterflies. Or on maintaining green belts, or strategic gaps!
It is merely recognition that Hamble Lane and the associated Windover roundabout are at full road traffic capacity during peak times, not to mention that a substantial part of Hamble Lane is already noted for poor air quality from traffic fumes, from cars sat in traffic queues.
Do our planners not see the combined effect of at least three or four substantial developments which will impact on to Hamble Lane?
Not least with the number of gravel lorries which will need to exit from the old Hamble airfield.
In summary, I fear the residents in Hamble, Hound and Bursledon will become prisoners in their own homes, unable to move by car due to a gridlocked Portsmouth Road, Hamble Lane and Windover roundabout!
I seriously hope I’m wrong about my prediction for the future, and perhaps some planning expert from Eastleigh Borough Council or Hampshire County Council could calm my fears.
STU LE MARECHAL, Old Netley.
