REGARDING the Watermark West Quay site.
New Vision Leisure Site – yet another ‘wow factor’ project set for Southampton. What has happened to all the rest of the proposed projects that have been put forward and then not heard of again?
We still need an ice rink for the children and teenagers, which would give them more exercise, make them forget their mobile phones and computer games for a while.
A ten-screen cinema which we do not need as we already have three complexes. The last time I went, there were only six of us there. Posh restaurants and bars – we already have plenty of those, and a bowling alley, all costing £70m.
What about putting some of this money where it is needed?
Keeping open day centres for the elderly and handicapped, a life line for some, and money for the buses. Also, police and firefighters. Not progress – it seems to be a backward step.
I hope it won’t another mistake like Ocean Village was. Lovely when it opened, but the shops were expensive, so had to close as people stopped going. What about tidying up what we already have and make it a city cruise liners would want to come into?
We have some wonderful historic sights to see: Bargate, Tudor House, the SeaCity museum and much more.
