WHAT a confused man Martin Kyrle must be (Letters, April 15).

While claiming to endorse democracy (of which freedom-of-expression is a vital part), he simultaneously demands that the Daily Echo practice censorship against those of us who are critical of the EU. He actually requests that the editor “...put a stop to these absurd letters...” (From people he dismisses as “hysterics”.) No, Mr Kyrle, you cannot have it both ways. To paraphrase Voltaire, I disagree with your own absurd letters, but will defend to the death your right to compose them.

Amusingly, there was a real no-brainer in MK’s latest broadside, when he asked: “What has the Third Reich got to do with the European Union?”

They are/were both seriously antidemocratic, mate. One used tanks to achieve rapid domination. The other has played a long game, gradually eating away at the sovereignty of nation-states, Treaty by Treaty, so stealthily that many people failed to perceive the growing superstate, controlling their lives without their consent. Until now.

And that, Mr Kyrle, is why (without a trace of hysteria) I will be calmly voting UKIP.
