BEARING in mind the current TV advertisement showing what Portsmouth has to offer tourists, can I ask what our illustrious leaders in Southampton would include in any advert exhorting people to visit Southampton?
Perhaps “Come and see our plans for even more offices, shops, posh restaurants and a super casino.
“Why not visit the scrappy piece of grass we like to call Mayflower Park and gaze in wonder at the Marchwood incinerator.
“The SeaCity Museum might be worth a visit and a sea view would be possible if it wasn’t for all the buildings in between.
“Come and take a long look at our various cruise liners.
“It will be a long look as if you’re in a car, thanks to our transport department, you won’t be moving very far or very quickly.
“Unfortunately we have no plans for a park and ride scheme as all our efforts, we feel quite rightly, are being concentrated on the super casino which the vast majority of Sotonians are crying out for.
“If you feel that anything we are doing smacks of family entertainment, we apologise and will come down on the person or persons responsible like a ton of bricks”.
Pompey here I come.
J. McCarthy, Hedge End.
