I HAVE just walked past the former Oaklands School site in Southampton where I was horrified to see contractors felling mature, majestic trees that have been there before Oaklands, Lordshill and other buildings.
I spoke to one of the contractors, who told me that only ten per cent of the trees were to remain. From a council which is supposed to be eco friendly I find this most disturbing.
As I passed I witnessed a beautiful silver birch bite the dust, so sad.
The council has already cleared all the trees from the old Erskine Court site in Suthertland Road, including two monkey puzzle trees, when will this stop?
They are doing this to make way for houses. Is this progress?
