FEEL compelled to respond to the ‘In my View’ by Millbrook Conservative councillor Galton, where he tries to defend not supporting improvements to Sturminster House in Millbrook.
Cllr Galton claims to fight for the people of Millbrook and said himself: “I abstained from a vote that was about a raft of Labour financial proposals”.
I was also in that same meeting, and feel it’s important to clarify this ‘raft of Labour financial proposals’, which included the following: 1. £9.5m to reclad six tower blocks, including Sturminster House, as well as blocks in St Mary’s, Shirley and Thornhill.
2. £2m to modernise balconies at two-storey blocks across the city, getting rid of the scaffolding poles.
Simply, Cllr Galton along with his Tory chums failed to support these proposals because they were proposed by the Labour Party, therefore demonstrating to residents across Southampton how much the Tories really are willing to fight for the people!
Despite savage cuts in Southampton by the Conservative-led Government, I am looking forward to voting for additional multi-millionpound improvements proposed by Labour in Millbrook, and wonder if Cllr Galton will bother to raise his arm on that occasion, having failed to do so the first time funding was offered for Millbrook.
COUNCILLOR MIKE DENNESS, Millbrook, Southampton.
