I SEE Rowenna Davis has contributed to your “In My View” (Letters, August 8). She speaks a good deal of sense concerning changes to the law regard private hire vehicle drivers.

No one in their right mind would take a ride with a driver who had not been through the proper security checks to get a licence to transport unsuspecting people around the city. It could be the opportunity for a thief, a rapist or even a murderer.

We as a society have suffered recently from deregulation, finance and transport to name the worst and it has not been good for us, the ordinary folk. Society needs the protection that rules bring. The alternative is anarchy.
