ONCE again I find myself disagreeing with the views and sentiments of D R Smith and his hostile attitude to Royston Smith in his quest to become MP for Southampton East as opposed to Labour’s offering of Londoner Rowenna Davis.
Far from being a Conservative supporter myself it would nevertheless seem to me that any straight-thinking Southampton resident who may have met Royston Smith, as I have on many occasions, would deem him to be the obvious choice – a local person, born and bred in the city, rather than a person with roots in London – to be our link with Westminster.
So here we have a local Conservative councillor offering to hold referendums on significant issues prior to voting in parliamentary debates. What could be fairer than that?
