IT was interesting to read Shaun Connolly's letter on a Benny Hill statue (January 9).
A recent programme about Eric Morecambe showed a large statue of him on the seafront in the town of Morecambe and there is a plaque on his old house. Quite right too.
However, apparently Benny Hill, outside of this country is the most famous British comedian in the world.
You would have thought that most councils would be proud of that and make the most of it. Not Southampton. They would rather scatter annoying lasers across the area in a cheap attempt at competing with the Spinnaker Tower in the lovely complex of Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth.
The quarter of a million pounds to be spent on these lasers would ensure quite a nice statue of Benny I would have thought!!
A HALLETT, Netley Abbey.
