AON January 25 I'm reminded of the time when my father (deceased some 30 years) went to Edinburgh with his sister Aggie from Dundee to check through the archives regarding a Burns connection their father said existed.
After spending a week there and with the help of an official they found out that their great grandmother was Robbie Burns auntie, who lived in a converted cow byre at Fettercairn, later moving to Auchenblae in Aberdeenshire.
The family name at that time was Burness, changed later to Burns by deed poll.
So it transpires that my great, great grandmother was indeed Robbie Burns' auntie!
