FURTHER to the controversy regarding Southampton City Council's proposal to project four green laser beams from the Civic Centre Clock Tower, I suggest that a single laser beam spanning Southampton Water would be more in keeping with the city's maritime heritage.
The laser could be generated from Town Quay and form an arc or light bridge' over the water which would serve to welcome cruise liners entering the port.
If this as implemented it would also become a major tourist attraction in the city.
I have already written to the leader of Southampton City Council, Councillor Adrian Vinson, submitting this suggestion hoping to gain his support.
