I READ with interest the Lawrie McMenemy column on Saturday, October 18 in relation to the forthcoming Jimmy Case book entitled “Hard Case”.
I am sure it is going to be a good read, as Jimmy is a real hero to many, and the autobiography is being published at the correct stage of his life, when he can look back at the achievements in football and life.
I have met Jimmy on a few occasions at football-related events and found him to possess the humility and modesty that great people always seem to have, and none of the overconfidence and arrogance that some of the mediocre have.
Another “Scouser” and ex-Liverpool player who is making a name for himself as a coach at St Mary’s and off the field in Winchester where he lives is Sammy Lee.
The amount of people such as market traders, council workers and locals in pubs who say they were talking to Sammy about football and what a genuine guy he is and that he’s a credit to the game and life in general.
Good luck with the book Jim, it deserves to do well, unlike some others that are only financially motivated.
HUGH M. PATTERSON, Winchester.
