I have recently received a newsletter from the Swaythling Residents Association about a proposed travellers site in my area. This is the first I have heard of it!
I am disappointed that I had to hear about it from my neighbours and not the official channels.
I am disappointed that the council feels that every bit of free and open space must be developed. This area, was until recently strategic gap land, showing the divide between Southampton and Eastleigh. If all strategic gap lands become slowly developed who will know where one authority ends and one begins?
It seems quite ironic that the council team fielding complaints is called the "inclusion" team. If the council really were trying to 'include' the travelling community, the question begs why they are trying to put the transit site on the furthest point from the heart of the city.
The council thought that they could slip this through as quickly as possible without local residents getting wind of the proposals. We need to stand up to them and show them that this is not acceptable.
