IT is very good news that there are plans for more cycle lanes and paths helping to keep cyclists safer.
In addition, cyclists on a designated path means one less thing motorists have to look out for.
However, I drive regularly from Chandler’s Ford to North Baddesley along Castle Lane, which has a fine cycle path.
So I question why do some cyclists persist in still riding on the road?
As I understand it, if a motorist has an accident with a cyclist, blame is automatically attributed to the motorist.
Maybe if a fixed penalty was given to a cyclist riding on a road when a cycle path is available, that would persuade the non-users to change their habits, then at least all the investment in cycle paths to try to keep cyclists safe would be even more worthwhile.
MR M D GARDINER, Chandler’s Ford.
