SINCE the exposure of Eastleigh Borough Council’s so-called Love Triangle it is clear the Cabinet and council’s functions have been affected.

From press reports in December 2014, this saga started in May 2014.

However, since then there has been little response from the leader Cllr Keith House, Cllr Tonia Craig and Cllr Louise Bloom on the premise that this is a private matter.

What little information that has been made public comes over as showing signs of being a distortion of the truth. This is serious for those in public life.

The Daily Echo article dated March 6, 2015, headlined ‘Police Warn Love Triangle Councillor’ has revealed there are issues of concern.

Cllr Craig claimed originally that she was appointed to Cabinet before anything happened with Cllr House. Now it appears Cllr Craig has been in conflict with Cllr Bloom since February 2014.

That indicates there were personal problems before any press reports which could be directly linked to the behaviour of the leader, Cllr House.

It also states the leader did not appoint Cllr Craig to her position. Can we honestly be expected to believe he had no influence?

In a public notice headed ‘How the council is run’ it clearly confirms “the leader determines the size of the Cabinet and appoints between two and nine members of the council to the Cabinet, allocates any areas of responsibility (portfolios) to them and may remove them from the Cabinet at any time”.

I would also endorse the words of the Daily Echo Comment made on March 6.

The final sentence reads: “An outside body should now look into these events and report on this sorry situation.”

In my book the leader, Cllr Keith House, is responsible for the current mess, compounded by his silence and his threat to refuse to answer questions from the Daily Echo on any issues in future. This is the attitude of a dominant, dictatorial leader of a virtual one party council.
