AS chairman of the Fitzhugh Residents' Association we wish to comment on some points made by Dave Beach (Letters, April 10).
Our association is one of the most active in Southampton and we cover the northern end of Bedford Place and surrounding roads. This area was once part of the Fitzhugh Estate, hence our name. We have been in existence for 21 years.
This is a very nice area in which to live, contrary to the views of one person who is quite often quoted by the Daily Echo.
We have lovely family-run businesses where you are made to feel welcome. There are doctors, dentists, an optician, hairdressers, fashion shops and anything else you can wish for. Bedford Place is cleaned to perfection every day which is a credit to the cleaner, Paul, and the city council.
We are within walking distance of the library, art gallery, Mayflower theatre, superstores, a supermarket and our beautiful parks. We are also on a bus route and local to both the railway and coach stations.
Most of the residents who have lived here for a few years would not think of moving.
The Bedford Place area has a lot going for it and we love it.
MRS YVONNE ENRIGHT, Fitzhugh Residents' Association.
