A CORRESPONDENT on this page claimed (April 13) that there is no obvious sign of rubbish or damage resulting from the travellers moving on to Riverside Park. Unfortunately that is not the case.
There is human excrement all across the park, the area behind the trees that leads directly to the river is awash with dumped mattresses, pillows, food and anything else you can think of.
The really frightening thing is that these people are speeding across the park in the cars to their homes with total disregard for children, dog walkers etc. Since Good Friday Riverside Park has become a no-go zone for local children. I have heard many reports that the children of the travellers have beaten up local children who wanted to use the play area near to where they have set up home.
A regular correspondent from the Fawley area often writes defending the travelling community. I would love to hear his comments on the above!
I have phoned the police on two occasions on this matter, unfortunately I have been fobbed off by them saying there is nothing they can do.
Travellers are above the law and they know it. When they eventually leave, money from our council tax will pay to clean the park up.
