MY children have always enjoyed watching the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. When we saw it was coming to the Mayflower we were thrilled.
Looking at their website for tickets I was gobsmacked at how expensive they were and the restrictions. This is because "Children (under 12) one half price allowed with each full price paying adult - Monday to Friday, rear circle and balcony only. Not available online''.
So, for two adults and four children, only two children would go half price and probably wouldn't be able to see anything as they would be at the back.
I also find it difficult to understand why if you are a senior citizen you can only go on a Thursday at 2pm if you want to get your ticket for £20, otherwise they also have to pay full price.
I understand that this is going to be a popular if not sell out show but did not think that restrictions such as these would be in place.
This is a show aimed at children but unfortunately with such restrictions it is not something that we as a family will be able to enjoy.
MRS NICOLA MADIGAN, Romsey.
A Mayflower spokesman replies: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one of the biggest West End blockbuster productions ever to come here (24 40ft trailers) and the seat prices reflect the quality and cost of the production. The prices, concessions and discounts are set by the producer and we are contractually bound by his pricing.
Matinees are extremely popular with senior citizens and therefore we aim to offer a suitably priced ticket for these shows.
The show is aimed at not only the young, but also the young at heart that have grown up enjoying this classic musical over the years.
