MAY I correct a serious error in the article headed Peace and Prosperity Provided by the EU (Daily Echo, April 14)?
This claim is totally untrue; it is NATO which has kept the peace since the last war and not the EU.
The true statements in the article are 1. Yes, the EU impacts on all our lives.
2. And yes it is incredible that the EU still exists!
I would ask all your readers not to let this corrupt EU organisation take any credit for the peace and prosperity, which was bought with the sacrifice of so many lives in two world wars; they bought our freedom with their.
The birth of NATO then has kept the peace ever since. The EU is still in its infancy as regards peace and prosperity for all. I get tired of all the old chestnuts about "Britain must be at the centre of Europe to enable us to sort out the problems'', well we have been at the centre for 14 years, indeed Tony Blair himself had the lead role for six months what has been achieved?
Nothing! Except our hard-won rebate given away by Tony Blair who handed it over like a lamb to the slaughter.
The corruption is still there, even their own auditors have again for the 12th year refused to sign off the books, yet still after 14 years of giving in to every new daily dictate that comes out we are worse off.
Our laws and parliaments have served us well for thousands of years because we have been allowed to remove the politicians if they proved unworthy, (before anyone suggests that it is just a bunch of old fuddy duddys who do not want change I would remind them that this older generation has gone through more changes in our lifetime than any other generation).
It is because of this we value our freedom, and the freedom of our children to have a voice in their country.
It is about the very foundation of being British, our history our heritage our pride in what we the mother country have given the rest of the world. We do not need our sons' to tell us what is best for us, we did not get this far without a belief in democracy and fair play, we have always acted with a sense of duty and compassion towards those who without us would have been shackled!
Like any Mother we wished our children well and supported them in times of need whilst they grew up, we instilled in them through hard fought battles that freedom was everyone's right, that we as a nation were only the keepers of that freedom for our future generations.
The EU was like a spoilt child, petulant, then greedy, it wanted it all, firstly it stamped its feet and the British were denied a vote, then when the British were motivated by the UKIP party to stand up for their rights it was severely reprimanded by an 80 per cent no vote!
It skulked away. But it came back with its own set of rules (the constitution).
I am deeply disturbed as to how far this brain washing by the EU has gone when I read the comment from Sharon Bowles, a Lib Dem MEP, who claims to be the voice of the people, what voice is she referring to?
When the voice said 80 per cent no did she attempt to implement the wishes of the electorate? No!
Yet in your column she tries to blame UKIP for not going along with the demands of the EU. Who exactly does she work for?
She also states that we are very bad at labelling things with Built with EU funds' I fear this lady has like so many has become programmed by her masters.
The rest of us are all well aware that this funding is our money! It is the taxes paid by the public which pay for these often-grandiose schemes, where else does she think this money comes from?
Britain is the second highest contributor to this insatiable pot, yet it is only in other countries we see vast improvements.
We only have to look very close to home to see the sorry state of our hospitals/schools/care homes/roads/and the plight of our pensioners, the very people who gave us our freedom, treated like beggars, and robbed to grave, and now beyond.
Peace and prosperity thanks to NATO, The loss of our freedoms and right to govern ourselves?
