I TOOK three grandchildren (aged five, five and 11) to Hythe. They loved the ferry journey and especially the train along the pier. They had a lovely time exploring the beach and marina area. Later we had a tasty alfresco meal at one of the pubs in the precinct followed by ice cream from a nearby shop. All in all a day worth repeating.
I had never visited Hythe previously. My impression was of a charming gateway to the New Forest that had retained some individuality.
