I THANK Duncan McVey, the head of engineering at Eastleigh Council, for his reply to my concerns about the safety in Leigh Road, Eastleigh (Letters, April 6), albeit virtually word for word the conversation we had some months previously.
My concerns are still there, partially sighted and children are not going to notice the change in colour of the footway; the narrower road does not deter speeding. In fact, some drivers use the straight road as a chance to rev up; the black bollards serve no purpose, people still pull up on the pavement to let passengers out or visit Kentucky Fried Chicken.
I will concede that one point has been corrected. Last week two No Entry signs have been put up, presumably to stop drivers going the wrong way in the one-way system. It doesn't work.
A) They are the smallest signs ever B) They are too high up the lamp posts out of the drivers view C) One is obscured by a tree D) They are the wrong end of the road, by the time the drivers have reached them they have no room to turn so consequently they just exit the wrong way thus making problems not only for pedestrians but also for drivers using Desborough Road.
