THERE seems only one disadvantage to the Southampton Eye proposal - the location in Andrews Park.
1. The park is sufficiently enjoyable in itself, and doesn't need the balloon. There must be other sites and areas of the city which would be positively enhanced by having the balloon.
2. The ballroom would not adorn the park, especially in the winter months when it would be moored in position like a giant (80ft) egg - an unattractive sight (see Bournemouth).
3. The fact that government permission would be necessary shows that legal and environmental questions arise. Surely it would be better to pick a site where no doubtful and contentions issues are involved?
