I HAVE been in the main post office in Winchester when all the counters have been manned and a long queue of customers have been waiting to be served.

Now someone thinks that the business can be transferred to W H Smith. Have they ever visited the one in Winchester?

I have a better suggestion: sack the Royal Mail board of directors, don't pay them any redundancy or pensions, which I suspect amounts to more than I have earned in my life.

The money thus saved should be given to the postmen/women and employ more of them.

Install a new board of directors who think first and foremost of serving the public and not their shareholders.

Then perhaps we will get a decent postal system.
