National Service I MUST reply to Harold Price's letter (May 1) in which he disagrees with my view that National Service should be introduced.
It is regrettable that his sterling service in the Middle East should have been spoiled by a bunch of thieving recruits. I would consider army discipline in those days could have avoided that situation.
However, today any remaining remnants of discipline have disappeared, and society or government simply have lost the plot.
National Service for both sexes, should they be in any way considered antisocial, would be the finest shot in the arm they ever receive, and with not a syringe in sight!
With the major problems many of us suffer, a very firm positive hand is required to stop this decline, just imagine what this country could sink to in 20 years' time!
HUGH CLEVERLY, Fair Oak.
