DR Keith Johnson, of Southampton Solent University, in writing about students and their responsibilities to the local community (Letters, May 2), should encourage students, when off campus and hopefully enjoying themselves as they are entitled, to cool it when they leave pubs and clubs late at night and in the early hours of the morning.
I understand that people living in the Polygon area have suffered greatly with disturbed nights from inebriated youngsters creating havoc while walking to their accommodation.
Dr Johnson mentions that students from his university engage in positive contributions to the local society. As an example he mentions the annual Polygon clean-up. Might he suggest that students do a weekly clean-up?
It would be a great pity that Southampton Solent University, that enjoys the well deserved acknowledgement of being a centre of academic excellence, should suffer from students' behaviour when off campus.
