A CORRESPONDENT wanted to know why there is no money for repairing the seats in the Sholing Valley (Letters, May 9).

He went on to say that there appeared to be plenty of money to be spent on a so-called village green.

The village green was not created by the council, but by the Sholing Environment Group.

The group are local residents, who raised funds and continue to do so to create a village green on a piece of what was wasteland, covered in litter.

That land could easily have become a building plot, but is now protected from development for at least 95 years as it is registered as a village green. This has been done for the benefit of all Sholing residents, young and old.

Next time you wish to snipe at the council I suggest you get your facts straight, so that you do not cause insult to a group of volunteeers who are trying to make a difference in the community.

By the way, it is the environment group that tries to maintain the gravel pathways through the valley by begging materials etc from wherever we can get them, and by clearing litter etc.
