WHILE on a visit to a police headquarters in Utah, USA, I asked why no speed cameras?
I was told they were removed after being declared unconstitutional. They caused more accidents by shunts from drivers concentrating on their speedometers, and did nothing to promote road safety, which was best left to traffic police on patrol.
That they were nothing more than a fund raiser harking back to the times when small towns raised funds with partly hidden speed signs, and a police officer hidden behind a hedge.
The weird and eccentric state of California is introducing legislation to ban smoking in homes rented by local authorities, with eviction of tenants who are caught smoking at home.
This could be bad news for us in the UK, as a Government who is trying to stop parents teaching their children sensible consumption of alcohol, and social wine with meals, may latch onto this in their desire to control every aspect of our lives.
