SINCE Southampton is quite environmentally friendly, why are there always two sets of lights on day and night on Redbridge Causeway?
MRS M PRICE, Holbury.
A Southampton City Council spokesman replies: Two high mast lighting units have been on during the day as there is a fault with the control mechanism, which is in need of replacement. Also the pillar is located within a fenced private land area, not owned by the council. We aim to replace the pillar and to have it relocated on to the highway for ease of access. This work is scheduled to be carried out as soon as possible.
We endeavour to ensure that we don't waste electrical energy, but it's also a question of road safety in terms of having the road carriageway lit at night.
If residents have any concerns regarding street lighting then the council can be contacted direct via Actionline, 0800 5191919.
