IN RESPONSE to the letter complaining about cruise ships letting off fireworks (May 12), why not go the whole hog and ban fireworks entirely?
People having enjoyment and celebrating - whatever next?
The port of Southampton has good cause to celebrate its rebirth as major cruise ship terminal.
Good grief, we cannot possibly encourage people of this great city to celebrate this fact. They might get out of hand.
What on earth is the matter with society? The thought police are in control of almost every avenue of sources of enjoyment, and society is prepared to accept and tolerate such nonsense - a free country where people are, or more pertinently, were allowed to enjoy things that were legal. We cannot have this, we cannot possible encourage such revolutionary behaviour.

l Thank God for the fireworks from the cruise ships - they are the only thing that brighten up this dull city.
There will always be some people who moan about everything.
Nothing will ever be done to create a wow factor for Southampton because people oppose everything.
Those who say an ice rink will provide it need to wake up.
Portsmouth is racing ahead and is becoming the lead city of the south.
P BILLOWS, Southampton.
