SHOLING Village Green wasn't a refurbishment it was five years' hard work undertaken by Sholing Environ-ment Group (Letters, May 9).

It was a treeless scrubby green, no use other than a place to cross to the shop or a dog loo, and a site that could have been used for development.

With grants from the Country-side Agency and donations from local businesses, the green now has trees, a maze, seats and proper paths.

The upkeep of the green will be undertaken by the environment group, with help from the parks and open spaces department.

The environment group also does work in the Sholing Valley, or its proper title the Shoreberg Greenway.

Over the years we have cleared Church Path to Millers Pond, reinstated paths, emptied the stream of mattresses, bikes, motorbikes and other rubbish and litter pick from Bursledon Road to Church Path.

The issue of seats or the lack of them has been an ongoing problem and hopefully will be replaced yet again.

Then the correspondent of May 9 can walk through, resting on the seats and then walk up the steep hill to Sholing Village Green and can rest again, with a view of trees and wild flowers.

LIZ BUSHNELL, Sholing Environment Group.
