IT is a misguided, nostalgic notion to call for the return of National Service.
I am a sergeant in the army which is a professional organisation, not a bunch of social workers. I don't see why I should become a nursemaid for yobs who don't want to be in the army.
I am not qualified to wet nurse them with their drug and social problems, all it would do is take away limited and valuable funding from an under-resourced service, it would also lower the standard of the world's most professional and respected army.
I say no to National Service and yes to something along the lines of a form of community service that the country would benefit from.
