I HAVE just watched the latest advertisement from the DVLA warning what will happen to vehicles that are untaxed and not SORN. The advertisement warns that the vehicle could be crushed and the owner issued with a monetary penalty.
The reality is that this advertisement is - for the most part - a work of fiction.
In recent weeks I have reported a vehicle, to the DVLA, for not having a valid tax disc.
Before one can even speak with a person, the caller is advised that there is no point in reporting the vehicle unless the tax disk is two weeks out of date. Because the vehicle in question did not display a tax disc, I felt they would be interested. Wrong.
They said there was nothing they could do, as the vehicle was in daily use, and then suggested I contact the police. it appears that the police do not have the resources to deal with individual cases of this nature.
However much it is costing the DVLA to put out their message, it is too much.
Particularly in light of the evidence that they are either unable or unwilling to adhere to the claims in their advertisement.
I wonder if they are they suffering from the modern malaise of total indifference?
