THE proposed points system to allocate council houses is an old idea going back about 40 or 50 years in my area, if I remember correctly.
Council houses were only allowed to go to married couples with children, not couples living together or to unmarried mothers.
Outsiders were always put at the bottom of the housing list, locals born and bred came first, which is only right.
Even so my husband and I had to wait four years and our first born was three when we got a council house, and I'm local.
The points system was a positive action at that time that seemed to work in favour of locals which is only right and proper.
