What A Corbishley calls "the background voice" ('Moron TV voice says the obvious', Daily Echo Letters, April 5th) is more commonly known as Audio Description - it is a valuable and important service for blind and partially sighted viewers, providing extra narration of on-screen action which these viewers would be unable to see for themselves.

Audio Description is an optional service - you do not hear it unless you choose to turn it on.

Since your correspondent can apparently see and hear without issue, perhaps they should consult the user manual for their television or set top box, where they can find full details of how to turn it off again?
